Nuclear Knits: Where knitting is the bomb!

From the As Seen In The Movies forum I decided to try and design the Bridget Jones Ski Bunny hat. It is a very simple design. Sketching it out - mapping out the stitches - even looking up how to do a pom-pom was easy (I've never made one before). But, now that I'm knitting up a sample - I can't seem to get the gauge right. The hat is suppose to be 21-22 inches around. I'm doing a combo of k/p across the bottom, so it should be stretchy. But darn it if I can't seem to get the size right. I wonder if the type of yarn I'm going with is hampering me?

I've finished another pattern and am looking for testers. If you'd like a copy to try out please let me know and I'll email you one. This needs some reviewing and testing.

I was in Washington DC this past week and I spent a few hours just relaxing and knitting in the "big city feel". I like really busy places where people are constantly running in and out and you sit still. Working your yarn and enjoying the chaos that is other people's lives. Here are the Taos Thanksgiving toe up socks that I'm working on. The question of how tall to make them and what is the best toe up pattern (with the fewest holes) is still a question. I am almost done with another pattern. A cabled vest out of chunky wool. Hopefully I'll have it posted this weekend!

Early this morning we drove down to Albuquerque to catch a flight to Washington DC. While at the airport I was working on a pair of sock (toe up version from an Interweave magazine). First, I was stunned by the shear number of people that will stare at you while you are knitting at the airport. Second, I'm trying to figure out the perfect toe up pattern. Any comments on this? Anyone have a favorite that works really well? I'm doing a mix from a pattern of Elann and the Interweave magazine. At the heal there are these little holes. I'm not very impressed with it. Ode to the perfect toe up heal ... please be out there! Tomorrow is exploring DC and hunting out a good yarn store!

I've had nothing but problems trying to upload and keep nuclearknits.com up and running. I figured I'd just start another blog on blogger - and then I wouldn't have to fight it any more. I'm going to try uploading patterns now (let's see how uploading PDF's go).
